Wu & Associates Architects
project scope
General Contractor Wu Associates, Inc. called upon Jamison's expertise to field the many challenges associated with the restoration of Ewing , NJ 's historic Kahn Bathhouse. The project began with demolition of two of the structure's unsound CMU walls, and masonry cleaning of the remaining walls to remove accumulated dirt, staining, and a 1" thick build-up of algae.

Each wall of the bathhouse was individually inspected by the site foreman, and a course of repair and restoration was put into action based on his evaluation. Damaged and cracked CMUs were either restored or removed and replaced with new, custom-matched and -crafted blocks. Masons on the job were instructed in a special, peculiar technique to tool the mortar into place, matching that used on the building's original joints. Steel reinforcements and waterproof coatings were also applied, ensuring the longevity of the bathhouse and its restorations.

In addition to this work, Jamison also performed restoration on the adjoining day camp, installing 10' high terra cotta columns, and once again producing numerous samples and mock-ups to ensure seamless integration with the existing structures.
